ADLER-leading wood paint manufacturer With its 420 employees, ADLER is Austria’s leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Our success story started with a small paint store that Johann Berghofer established in the old town centre of Schwaz in 1934. He started producing oil paints, matting, polishes and floor cleaning agents in the storerooms of the shop. Following the demise of the founder of the ADLER company at the early age of 54, his son, Ing. Günther Berghofer, took over the business with 45 employees, supported by his mother Hermine Berghofer. The small paint shop evolved into the brand name manufacturer ADLER.
Markets and customers Every year, approximately 15,000 tons of varnish leave the paint factory in Schwaz and reach customers in more than 20 countries worldwide. 40 % of the production is exported. More than half of the output is sold in Austria, the domestic market. ADLER’s customers include carpenters, furniture and window manufacturers, but also painters and handymen. Our regular investments in research and development contribute to ADLER‘s position among the leading companies in Europe. In the sectors of furniture varnishes and window coating systems, as well as in the do-it-yourself sector, ADLER can assert its market-leading position in Austria. Special emphasis is placed on direct customer contact, in order to be able to react expeditiously to all requirements.
Quality Continuous controls guarantee consistent quality for all ADLER products. Quality control starts as early as the time the raw materials are delivered and is the key factor for the certification of ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik according to ISO9001 and ISO 14001.
Clean work - clean environment More than 60 % of our approximately 10,000 articles are produced on a water-thinnable basis. ADLER does not only pay lip service to environmental protection - in 1995, we established our Environmental Protection & Recycling Centre, one of the most modern ones in Europe. In 1994, ADLER was awarded the “Responsible Care” certificate for its commitment. Moreover, ADLER was the first Austrian paint factory to receive the Eco Audit Certificate (1998) and to be registered in the directory of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Youth and Family.
Family tradition In 2001, Ing. Günther Berghofer, the managing partner of ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik of many years, turned the company’s management over to the next generation. His daughter assumed management together with the Head of Purchase and authorised signatory of many years. In pursuance with the founder’s legacy, ADLER is still a family business today.
