New Lacquered Surfaces from Pfleiderer add a Touch of Style to the HOLZ-HANDWERK Trade Fair in Nuremberg

At the European HOLZ-HANDWERK trade fair in Nuremberg from 21 to 24 March, the wood-based panel manufacturer Pfleiderer will be presenting besides trendy decors from its current collection also its new high-end lacquered surfaces Pfleiderer PrimeBoard and Pfleiderer Duropal HPL Compact Exterior. With these products the company is setting new standards in surface technology.

Innovative lacquer technology Early in 2018, Pfleiderer’s new lacquering line worth approx. 12 million euros went on stream at its Leutkirch site. Using an innovative HotCoating procedure, a high-quality multiple-layer UV-cured acrylic coating is applied onto wood-based materials. “This multi-layer coating system ensures the excellent surface quality of our products. It stands out for its elegant appearance, very good workability, resistance, UV- durability and easy cleaning”, says Rüdiger Jürke, Head of Product Management Decor Boards at Pfleiderer. The developed technology is unrivalled in the market, and with a length of 165 metres the new lacquering line is currently the largest HotCoating Plant in the world.

Design-oriented solutionsThe new high-end lacquered surfaces will be available in super matt and high-gloss. Pfleiderer follows this trend already since years. “Products such as XTreme Matt for Duropal HPL have been successfully placed in this segment in the past. This low-reflective surface has a very classy touch, and the additional functional properties, such as the anti-fingerprint effect, enthuse our customers. After careful analysis of the market development we are sure that this surface will be highly important for us also in the future”, says Rüdiger Jürke. The same goes for the HotCoating high gloss surface that lends plain decors a particular depth in combinations with a mirror shine effect. Pfleiderer PrimeBoard is available in the format of 2,800 mm x 2,100 mm.

Venturing into the outdoor business

With Duropal HPL Compact Exterior Pfleiderer is for the first time venturing into the outdoor business. In the future, the Exterior Matt (EM) surface will be produced in Leutkirch in the waste-efficient format of 2,800 x 2,070 mm. Its high UV-durability and lightfastness is met with enthusiasm by customers. “The product allows the use of intensive colours for exterior purpose even under permanent solar exposure”, explains Christian Stiefermann, Product Manager Core Materials at Pfleiderer. In addition, the new product was approved as fall protection by the relevant authorities and can therefore be used for example as balcony parapet. By entering the market for outdoor applications, Pfleiderer is closing the last gap in its portfolio.

Moreover, Pfleiderer’s current Design Collection 2017-2020 will be also on display. Eleven colour worlds, 360 decors und 21 surface textures with an unprecedented array of possible combinations are awaiting visitors to the fair. Most decors of the collection are available in the colour match range on MFC and HPL. In combination with various textures and core materials they meet different demands. Thanks to the integration of Pfleiderer Germany and Pfleiderer Poland into ONE Pfleiderer, the company is now able to offer this collection woldwide to all customers.

Texture lends naturalness

Surfaces, among others, take on particular importance because it is the authenticity of materials that is crucial to the atmosphere and quality of interiors and spaces. The touch and feel and certain visual effects, such as gloss and matt, sharp-edged details or soft transitions give a natural and classy look to wood, stone, metal and textile decors.

BalanceBoard -the light, sustainable, award-winning chipboard from Pfleiderer

“BalanceBoard” is the new generation material from engineered wood producer Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe GmbH. Up to 35 % of the wood content of each panel is replaced by biomass granules made from rapid-growing annually harvested plants. This makes the material lighter and therefore more manageable to transport than traditional chipboard. “BalanceBoard” is most often used in interior construction for furniture and fixtures, in retail and trade fair constructions, as well as in hotel and ship interiors. It is ideal for all applications for which environmentally sustainable, healthy, reduced-weight chipboard panels are required.

With regard to its technical performance, “BalanceBoard” behaves just like traditional engineered wood products, fulfilling the requirements and properties set out in DIN EN 312. The light, environmentally friendly material is available, as part of Pfleiderer’s new combined product range in the form of “DecoBoard Balance” in thicknesses of 16 / 18 / 19 / 22 / 25 / 28 / 38 mm, and in the form of an HPL flat bonded element, “Duropal Balance flat bonded element”, with a total thickness of 20.6 mm.

“BalanceBoard” makes a natural, sustainable contribution to the less resource-intensive use of wood as a raw material. And like wood, the biomass granules in “BalanceBoard” keep CO2 stored away as long as the panel is in use. The increased lightness also allows the CO2 emissions produced in transportation to be reduced.

Pfleiderer’s “BalanceBoard” engineered wood material has already been recognised with numerous awards for innovation and materials: These include the “iF material design award”, one of the most important design prizes worldwide, the “Design Plus Award” from Material Vision and the “Woody Award” from the German Timber Trade Federation (GD Holz).

Pfleiderer DST system

What hitherto was only possible with Thermopal, is now available in the whole world of Pfleiderer: The engineered wood manufacturer rolled out its premium brand's unique DST-system to its entire product range. "Our customers can now mix and match 180 decors, 10 surface textures and 16 core boards to fit to their needs," emphasizes Sabine Spitz, Product Manager Decorative Panels at Pfleiderer, who is presenting the system at the Interzum trade fair in Cologne from 13 to 16 May 2013. "At Pfleiderer, you are now completely free to realize your design ideas."

The DST-system ranges from plain decors to wood reproductions, fantasy decors to real metal decors. We also offer an extensive range of surface textures: Of course, we cannot do without high gloss or different varieties of matt surfaces here as well. In addition, you can choose from a selection of pearl, parchment and creative textures or natural wood reproductions. And not least does the DST-system include various types of core materials: from low-emission to moisture-resistant, from particularly lightweight to fire-retardant.

With DST-Xpress the decor of your choice is available in 72 hours
"And even if it's very urgent our customers can rely on the fact that they get the widest possible choice from us," says Spitz. For those cases Pfleiderer holds its DST-Xpress Collection in stock including 92 decors, six surface textures and two core boards, with a total of more than 800 items. "DST-Xpress is our fast delivery programme," explains Spitz: "This means, they reach the specialist trade within 7 working days."

The DST-system is available in all formats and thus also in favourable sizes for minimum cutting waste. Direct laminated boards are available in lengths of 2,655 mm, 2,800 mm, 5,310 mm and 5,600 mm and a width of 2,100 mm. High pressure laminates are supplied in lengths between 2,150 mm and 5,600 mm and widths from 915 mm to 2,070 mm. HPL flat bonded elements are offered in lengths between 2,650 and 5,600 mm and in widths of 1,300 mm and 2,070 mm.
