Full closing report: HOLZ-HANDWERK and fensterbau/frontale 2010: “Doors open, halls full”
- Fully booked exhibition centre
- 1,273 exhibitors from 35 countries
- More than 100,000 trade visitors again
The exhibition duo of HOLZ-HANDWERK, the European Trade Fair for Machine Technology, Equipment and Supplies for the Wood Crafts, and fensterbau/frontale, the International Trade Fair Window, Door and Facade, which takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg every two years, impressively confirmed its status as highlight for the two sectors.
Altogether 1,273 exhibitors from all over the world made the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg the hub for wood crafts, windows, doors and facades from 24–27 March 2010. The number of exhibitors in the fully booked halls was therefore the same as at the previous event in 2008. The number of visitors even slightly exceeded the level of the previous event: On the four days of the exhibitions, 103,974 trade visitors (2008: 102,947) poured into the halls and onto the stands of the exhibitors to source information about new products and innovations and get fit for future business with firm investments and lots of information.
On Thursday and Friday in particular, the flow of visitors was enormous, with over 30,000 visitors per day. “Doors open, halls full”, said Dr. Klaus Huntebrinker, Managing Director of ISOLAR-Glas-Beratung GmbH, member of the exhibition committee and exhibitor at fensterbau/frontale, commenting on the crowds. Not only the quantity was a positive aspect again, but above all the high professional qualifications of the visitors.
Nine out of ten exhibitors were satisfied with the visitors and two-thirds even rated them as good to very good. 97 per cent of the companies said they had reached their most important target groups at the two exhibitions, and well over 90 per cent made new business connections. 43 per cent of the exhibitors at fensterbau/frontale and as many as 59 per cent at HOLZ-HANDWERK made direct sales during the exhibition, and around nine out of ten at both exhibitions expect follow-up business from the contacts initiated.
HOLZ-HANDWERK: tradition, stability and future potential
HOLZ-HANDWERK 2010 achieved the same size as in 2008 with 515 exhibitors from 17 countries. The leading exhibiting nations at HOLZ-HANDWERK after Germany were Austria and Italy. The visitors found a new or improved product on almost all stands at HOLZ-HANDWERK, and 87 per cent of the exhibitors had visitors from countries outside Germany, especially from Austria, Italy, France, the Benelux States, Poland, the Czech Republic, Central Eastern Europe and North Eastern Europe. Nine out of ten exhibitors were satisfied with the overall success of their presence at the exhibition in Nürnberg and have already decided to exhibit again in two years’ time.
Some two-thirds of the visitors at HOLZ-HANDWERK came from the craft trades, another 12 per cent from the industry, followed by the wholesale and retail trade. 58 per cent of them say HOLZ-HANDWERK is the only exhibition they visit for this theme. Eight out of ten visitors are involved in procurement decisions in their company, and as many as a third decisively influence these decisions.
“By international comparison, HOLZ-HANDWERK is a refuge of continuity, a pillar of stability and reliability in an extremely turbulent environment,” said Rolf Knoll, Chairman of VDMA Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen, in his opening speech. “It is the fifth largest woodworking exhibition in the world – which shows the importance of woodworking in this country.” Knoll is also sure about the great future potential of woodworking: “I see our sector as one of the winners in the medium and long term. Wood as a sustainable raw material will increase in importance and we will make a decisive contribution to this with our technologies and machinery.
We are on the right track with our core themes of continuous innovation, more efficient use of resources and individual services. We rely on our strengths and sophisticated technologies, which secure decisive advantages for our customers in Germany and worldwide.”
fensterbau/frontale: unique success story
fensterbau/frontale 2010 also proved its extraordinary stability with 758 exhibitors from 33 countries. Besides Germany, the most exhibitors came from Poland, Italy, Austria and Turkey. 97 per cent of the companies recorded international visitors on their stands, headed by the immediate neighbouring countries, followed by Italy, Great Britain, Russia and Turkey and countries in all the other continents. Nine out of ten exhibitors showed a new product or innovation in Nürnberg, three-quarters of them rated their overall success as satisfactory to good, and 13 per cent even very good. 90 per cent had already decided at the end of the 2010 exhibition: We’ll be there again in 2012!
A good half of the visitors at fensterbau/frontale 2010 came from the craft trades and another quarter of them from the industry. 11 per cent were wholesalers, retailers and builders’ merchants, and five per cent architects. Eight out of ten visitors are involved in purchasing and procurement decisions in their company. Around 20 per cent of the visitors not only used the extensive range of products, but also the special information and training opportunities, such as the 5th Forum Architecture–Windows–Facades, the metallbauTreff or the special show “The good ones are efficient in all disciplines!”
For Dr. Siegfried Melcher, Director of the Fachverband Glas Fenster Fassade Baden-Württemberg, the development of fensterbau/frontale into the world-leading exhibition is a phenomenon: “Since its beginnings in Mosbach/Baden-Württemberg in 1949, fensterbau/frontale has developed into a unique building exhibition of worldwide importance. Like a magnetic pole, fensterbau/frontale exerts a constant, powerful force of attraction on exhibitors and visitors from the glass, window and facade industry in Germany and meanwhile on visitors from all over Europe, Asia and overseas too. fensterbau/frontale is and remains a unique success story in the building exhibition segment.”
